Todd Gurley is currently a running back for the Los Angeles Rams of the National Football League (NFL). The former Georgia Bulldogs standout running back was selected 10th overall in the 2015 NFL draft. Gurley was named offensive rookie of the year for the 2015 season.
Considered a complete back that is “one of the most physically gifted backs to enter the nfl in the last decade.” Gurley finished his junior year with 911 rushing yards and nine touchdowns.
After committing to the University of Georgia, Gurley began the first game of his freshman season rushing for 100 yards on eight carries with two touchdowns. Overall, he started 12 of 14 games and rushed for 1,385 yards on 222 carries with 17 touchdown. He became the second freshman in Georgia history to rush for 1,000 yards. He was named first-team all-sec by the associated press.
In Georgia’s season opener his sophomore year, Gurley lead the bulldogs with a career-high 154 rushing yards on 12 carries and 2 touchdowns. In 10 games, he rushed for 989 yards on 165 carries with 10 touchdowns.
In the spring of 2013, Gurley joined the Georgia Bulldogs indoor track team, recording the seventh-fastest time in 60-meter hurdles in school history at 8.12 seconds. He took sixth at the vt elite meet. Gurley ended his junior season with 911 rushing yards and nine touchdowns.
Gurley attended high school in Tarboro, North Carolina, where he excelled in football, track, and basketball. He totaled 1,472 rushing yards, 26 touchdown, and 79 tackles during his junior season as a running back and defensive back. In 2010, he was named rocky mount telegram all-area offensive player of the year. In 2011, he totaled 2,600 yards with 38 touchdowns as a senior, earning the North Carolina associated press player of the year. He rushed for 242 yards with 4 touchdowns in the 2a North Carolina state championship versus Lincolnton high school.
In track and field, Gurley competed for Team USA in the 110-meter hurdles at the 2011 world youth championships in athletics, where he placed 3rd in the prelims and 15th overall in the semifinals. He ran a personal-best time of 10.7 seconds in the prelims of the 2011 NCHSAA 2a state track meet, placing 2nd.
In response to the recent tragedies in North Carolina from Hurricane Matthew, Todd Gurley was inspired to visit his home town and show his support through volunteerism. Partnering with Tarboro Community Outreach Center and the Food Bank of Central & Eastern NC, Todd helped by passing out meals to guests and handing out food to those in need from the pantry.
