Miguel Sano is a Dominican third baseman and designated hitter on the Minnesota Twins. The San Pedro de Macoris native made his Major League Baseball debut on July 2, 2015 with a hit against the Kansas City Royals.
Sano’s first year impact on the Twins pinnacled with the team’s Calvin R. Griffith Award for Most Valuable Twin in 2015. In his rookie season, he held a .269 batting average with 18 home runs and 52 RBI in 80 games, and led the Twins with 16 home runs and 44 RBI in the second half of the 2015 season. Sano became the fastest player to hit 10 home runs in Minnesota Twins history, and posted the fourth best OPS by a 22-year-old in league history, behind only Hall of Famers Joe DiMaggio, Jimmie Foxx and Frank Thomas. His list of freshman accolades includes American League Rookie of the Month in August and finishing third in American League Rookie of the Year voting.
