A Rivals and Scout three-star recruit, LeVert committed to the University of Michigan on May 12, 2012, joining a highly-touted recruiting class.
LeVert’s presence was immediately felt his freshman year. His defensive prowess allowed him to play a crucial role on a Michigan team that made it all the way to the National Championship before falling to Louisville. At the start of the following year, LeVert earned a spot in the starting lineup. His transition from role player to star athlete athelete helped the University of Michigan capture it’s first outright Big ten regular season title in 28 years and earn the Universities first No. 1 seed at the Big Ten tournament.
LeVert’s continued growth into an elite talent was matched only by an increase in his leadership ability as he was named both a 2014-15 All-Big Ten preseason selection and team co-captain. He was once again named an All-Big Ten preseason selection in 2015, becoming just the fourth Wolverine to earn the award multiple times in their career. After averaging 16.5 PPG and 5.3 RPG, and 4.9 assists all career-bests — He posted the program’s fourth triple-double with 13 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists against Northern Kentucky (Dec. 15, 2015)
For his career he played in 103 career games, compiling a 98-46 record. He became the 49th Wolverine to reach 1,000 career points ranking 44th all-time with 1,070. He finished averaging 10.4 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. He was instrumental in guiding U-M to back-to-back NCAA Elite Eights (2013 & 2014) as well as the Wolverines first NCAA Final Four and national title game in 20 years (2013).
While LeVert shines on the hardwood, his roots lie in music– he is related to Eddie LeVert, the lead vocalist of famed R&B group The O’Jays, as well as R&B singers Gerald LeVert of LSG and the late Sean LeVert.
In March 2016, Roc Nation Sports announced the signing of Caris LeVert to its roster of athletes.
